How Are We Walking 3?

This is what we have heard from him and are declaring to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. If we say that we share in God's life while we are living in darkness, we are lying, because we are not living the truth. But if we live in light, as he is in light, we have a share in another's life, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7

Our theme today is ‘Walking in the Light!' When we are walking in the light we are walking in God – Why?—because God is light. Now, our talk sounds nice, our talk sounds good! Yes, our talk seems alright but what about our walk. Our walk is the way we choose to live our lives. Are we true to Christ in our daily lives or our we false? Is Christ in our head and not in our heart? Yes, and you knew it was coming, yes, I must ask – do we walk the talk?

In order to answer this question we are going to rely on 1 John chapters 1 and 2. The Bible teaches that there are some conditions for walking in the light. The first condition is ‘to break with sin,' the second condition ‘is to keep the commandments,' the third condition is ‘detachment from the world' and the fourth condition for walking in the light is ‘to be on guard against Antichrists'.

Today we are going to talk about the third condition - Detachment from the World

Do not love the world or what is in the world. If anyone does love the world, the love of the Father finds no place in him, because everything there is in the world—disordered bodily desires, disordered desires of the eyes, pride in possession—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world, with all its disordered desires, is passing away. But whoever does the will of God remains forever. 1 John 2:15-17

This is a warning from God to all Christians. That's why it's in the Bible. God wants us to take heed to His Word! When He says ‘do not' that is exactly what He means. In this case the Word says: “Do not love the world or what is in the world.” This does not mean the natural world that God created. No, it means the evil world system that man has created that doesn't include the LORD! Ever hear the song, ‘I Did It My Way' well, that's the theme song of the world. My way or the highway but certainly not God's way! 

How Are We Walking? Is It In The Light?

Christians are to be detached from this world system. Detachment means aloofness, lack of involvement, disinterest, disconnection, separation, disentanglement, uncoupling. We are not to be coupled with the world; we are not to be just like the world! But are we detached or are we just 'loving it'? We are bombarded with Anti-Christian messages all day long and every day of our lives. 'Oh, don't think so. Oh, what is she talking about?' Well, let's just look at television. Anybody in here watch t.v.? In less than 15 minutes and from the commercials alone, I wrote down so many ungodly ideas that I had to stop writing because I didn't want those thoughts in my mind.
